Venus Vulture

Sean Monaghan has released mostly long, evolving drone soundscapes since 2008. He has been active in the net label scene, with many recent releases on US-based Zenapolæ.

At time of writing there are 12 releases on the Venus Vulture Bandcamp page, collecting new music and out of print net label releases from 2008 to 2021, and another five albums going back to 2010 on Zenapolæ’s site.

His 2021 album Ecosystem 8 includes a picture of his modular synth setup, so that’s apparently his current way of working. Other notes mention computers.

Three 2021 releases on his Bandcamp are versions of live tracks, as he prepared for his first gig! I hope it went ahead. They’re often icy drones, apparently starting from samples or field recordings processed heavily with effects.

Portuguese net label Test Tube was an absolute classic for ambient releases back in the day, and Venus Vulture’s Stick With Me Giselle, Things Can Only Get Better (2009) is still available on their site.
