Mostly making friendly techno, Em Bernard’s consistent use of atmosphere and harmony happily go in ambient directions too. On top of her debut album Two of the Same (2021) marking the first release of Strange Behaviour, she shows up on the label’s second release, the Ambient Maladies compilation (2021). Her contribution, Un-earthing, is a slightly atypically moody track.
Two of the Same ends with the beatless Sidereal, which originally showed up on the compilation Works for Headphones (2018).
In 2016 Bernard put her debut EP Happier Places on Bandcamp, and that’s all pretty ambient even when there is a kick drum pulsing away. (“Pretty ambient” whichever way you want to read that. 😎)
