Rotor Plus

Rotor Plus / Rotor+ is an alias of Leyton, who is also known for more trancey dancey work as Epsilon Blue and dub techno as son.sine. Rotor+ tracks are long and comparable to suites, with multiple parts that shift between small chamber works, radio and field recordings, and rhythmic electronic moments.

The physical format of 2020’s Fugue States -Before- was an embossed pencil. Right on.

In parallel to the Rotor Plus alias has been the release mechanism or perhaps label The Radiophonic Trading Company of New Zealand (RTCNZ). They have released earlier Rotor Plus albums with beautiful detailed booklets and intriguing artwork with an enticing retro bent. RTCNZ has apparently been a sub-label of one of the biggest New Zealand dance music labels to date, Kog Transmissions.

Rotor Plus is the only electronic act I know of that has explicitly responded to the early work of Douglas Lilburn, with the synthesised animal soundscape on Map Key Window (2004).
