Aspen is the earliest alias of Bevan Smith, producing very chill IDM with moments of pure ambience. His sound leans towards hardware synths and syncopated beats.
Bevan founded and runs Involve Records, which has been releasing interesting New Zealand music since the turn of the century.
To my ears Bevan’s next alias, Signer has even more ambient material, but tracks like the beatless Anniversary from his second album Are You That Retail Snob? (1999) definitely fit.
